In anticipation of World Female Ranger Day on 23 June, Intrepid Travel is highlighting its ongoing collaboration with the Black Mambas, South Africa’s trailblazing all-female anti-poaching unit.

Since 2013, the Black Mambas have been on the front lines in the Greater Kruger National Park, fiercely protecting wildlife and empowering local women. Their efforts have significantly curbed poaching incidents and fostered female leadership in conservation.

Intrepid Travel’s partnership with the Black Mambas underscores the travel company’s commitment to responsible tourism and the transformative power of women in conservation. Darrell Wade, Chairman and Co-Founder of Intrepid Travel, emphasized the impact of this collaboration: “Through the Intrepid Foundation, we’re not only supporting the critical conservation work of these courageous women rangers but also helping to empower communities and showcase how tourism can be an immense force for good when done right.”

The Intrepid Foundation has raised over $15.5 million for global communities since 2002, supporting initiatives like Helping Rhinos and the Victoria Falls Wildlife Trust, which focus on rhino poaching prevention, female empowerment, education, wildlife protection, and community development.

Intrepid Travel is the first global tour operator to offer travellers a unique opportunity to visit the Black Mambas at their headquarters and join them on patrol. This immersive experience is available on three of Intrepid Travel’s South African itineraries, allowing travellers to witness the dedication and passion of the Black Mambas firsthand.

Clinton Els, Regional GM for Africa and the Middle East at Intrepid Travel, highlighted the significance of this partnership: “Intrepid’s support for the Black Mambas through the Intrepid Foundation gets to the heart of our approach in southern Africa by using the power of tourism to uplift local communities, protect wildlife, and provide economic opportunities.”

This partnership aligns with Intrepid’s 2030 strategy, which aims to double its customer base to 600,000 and contribute 1% of revenue to purpose initiatives. By supporting the Black Mambas, Intrepid Travel demonstrates how responsible tourism can enrich both travellers and the destinations they visit, fostering a deeper connection to the region and inspiring more sustainable travel practices.
