South African Airways (SAA) has announced the addition of a second daily flight between Johannesburg’s OR Tambo International Airport and Mauritius, starting from 1 December 2024.
This move comes in response to increasing demand from both leisure and business travellers seeking convenient connections between the two destinations.
The enhanced service will feature two-morning departures from Johannesburg:
- Flight SA190: Departs Johannesburg at 09h40, arriving in Mauritius at 15h40 local time.
- Flight SA192: Departs Johannesburg at 10h45, arriving in Mauritius at 16h45 local time.
The return flights from Mauritius to Johannesburg will operate as follows:
- Flight SA191: Departs Mauritius at 16h30, arriving in Johannesburg at 18h55.
- Flight SA193: Departs Mauritius at 17h35, arriving in Johannesburg at 20h00.
Tebogo Tsimane, SAA’s Interim Chief Commercial Officer, highlighted that the decision to increase flight frequency was driven by the strong demand from both leisure and business sectors. “Our decision to increase the frequency of flights to Mauritius was driven by demand for leisure and business travellers,” Tsimane said.
SAA’s statement also emphasised that boosting flight frequencies to existing destinations is a key element of the airline’s broader growth strategy. As intra-African trade continues to expand, particularly with the rise of the African Continental Free Trade Area, SAA aims to position itself as the premium airline connecting African nations and facilitating the movement of goods across the continent.
“The Africa region presents exciting growth opportunities and is pivotal in our future plans,” Tsimane added, underscoring SAA’s commitment to becoming the airline of choice for African travellers.
This strategic move reflects SAA’s ambition to strengthen its presence in key markets and provide enhanced connectivity across Africa, catering to the growing demand for reliable and efficient air travel in the region.
