Air Gorongosa launch boosts access to Mozambique’s safari and coastal destinations

Improved air connectivity to one of Africa’s most significant conservation areas is set to reshape travel planning in Mozambique, with the launch of Air Gorongosa marking a new phase for access to Gorongosa National Park and beyond.

The new aviation service, evolving from Safari Air, has commenced operations as the 2026 safari season gets underway, aiming to provide more reliable and flexible connections for trade partners packaging the destination.

Expanded aviation network supports growth

Air Gorongosa enters the market with an expanded and modernised fleet, including a 12-seat Cessna Grand Caravan alongside existing aircraft such as the King Air 200.

The carrier is operating a structured weekly schedule aligned with international arrivals into Beira, with flights to Gorongosa running on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and onward connections to Vilanculos twice weekly via Beira.

Private charters are also available, giving advisors greater flexibility to tailor itineraries across Mozambique’s remote regions.

Stable pricing offers certainty for advisors

In a notable move amid broader aviation cost pressures, the operator confirmed that seat rates for both 2026 and 2027 will remain unchanged.

Existing bookings made under Safari Air will continue without alteration, providing continuity for agents and reassurance for forward planning.

For the Australian trade, price stability combined with improved access addresses two of the key barriers to selling Mozambique, particularly for high-end, multi-stop itineraries.

Bush and beach itineraries gain traction

The enhanced connectivity is expected to strengthen demand for combined safari and coastal packages, particularly linking Gorongosa with the Bazaruto Archipelago.

A current “stay 10, pay 8” offer combines a five-night safari in Gorongosa with five nights at Azura Marlin Beach, supported by twice-weekly flight connections between the two regions.

Valid for travel from 1 April to 30 November in both 2026 and 2027, the package reflects growing interest in integrated bush and beach experiences across emerging African destinations.

With improved logistics, stable pricing and increasing product development, Gorongosa is positioning itself as a more accessible and commercially viable option for international markets.
