Air Tanzania has announced the introduction of direct services between Nairobi, Kenya, and Zanzibar, Tanzania, bringing two of East Africa’s most vibrant destinations closer than ever before. The new route will officially launch on 18 August, offering travellers a faster, more convenient connection between the bustling Kenyan capital and the idyllic island getaway.
Flights will operate five times weekly, with TC233 departing Nairobi at 06h50 on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, arriving in Zanzibar at 08h10. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, the return service TC204 will depart Zanzibar at 05h40, touching down in Nairobi at 07h00. This schedule is designed to provide both leisure and business travellers with flexible options for short escapes or onward travel connections.
For Kenyan travellers, this direct link opens up easy access to Zanzibar’s renowned white-sand beaches, turquoise waters, spice plantations and UNESCO-listed Stone Town, all without the need for a Dar es Salaam connection. For visitors from Tanzania, the flights offer a smooth gateway to Nairobi’s vibrant city life, wildlife experiences in nearby national parks, and international flight connections via Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
Air Tanzania’s expansion reflects a growing demand for intra-East African travel, as well as the increasing appeal of multi-destination itineraries that combine urban exploration with beach relaxation. The airline aims to provide competitive fares, reliable service and a seamless travel experience for passengers on this popular leisure and business corridor.
