Airlink will launch the first-ever non-stop service between Cape Town and Zanzibar in October 2026, marking a significant expansion in direct connectivity between Southern Africa and the Indian Ocean.
The new weekly service will reduce travel time and simplify itineraries for both leisure and business travellers, with bookings now open.
Direct route strengthens leisure access
The Cape Town–Zanzibar flights will operate weekly from 03 October 2026, with a flight time of just over six hours.
The schedule has been designed to maximise time on the ground, avoiding late-night departures and early morning arrivals, a key consideration for leisure travellers.
Zanzibar continues to grow in popularity, driven by its mix of beaches, marine experiences and cultural attractions such as UNESCO-listed Stone Town.
Fleet upgrade supports passenger experience
Airlink will deploy its Embraer E195-E2 aircraft on the route, configured with 124 seats in a two-class layout.
The aircraft features a no middle-seat configuration, offering only window and aisle seating, which is increasingly positioned as a comfort differentiator in regional aviation.
Trade benefits from simplified itineraries
The new service follows the launch of Johannesburg–Zanzibar flights in June 2026, giving the airline two direct entry points into the destination.
For travel advisors, the Cape Town route removes the need for domestic connections via Johannesburg, streamlining itineraries and reducing transit time.
Passengers already booked on connecting services will be able to switch to the non-stop flight at no additional cost, subject to availability in the same cabin.
As demand for Indian Ocean extensions continues to grow, improved air access is expected to support stronger conversion for combined Southern Africa and beach itineraries.
