Minor Hotels has officially opened reservations for Anantara Tented Camp Kafue River, marking the brand’s first safari property and a strategic expansion into Zambia’s growing luxury safari sector.
Located within Kafue National Park, the 13-key camp launches during Anantara’s 25th anniversary year and aligns with broader conservation and tourism development efforts in one of Africa’s largest protected areas.
Kafue gains traction as emerging safari destination
The opening reinforces Kafue National Park’s position as an emerging alternative to more established safari regions, supported by ongoing ecological restoration led by African Parks and the Zambian Government.
Set along the Kafue River, the camp offers access to a recovering ecosystem home to elephants, large predators and more than 500 bird species, with activities spanning game drives, river safaris and guided walks.
For the trade, the development adds a high-end, internationally branded product to a destination that has traditionally had limited luxury inventory.
Elevated design focuses on low-impact luxury
Anantara Tented Camp Kafue River has been designed with a strong environmental focus, with all structures raised at least 3.5 metres above ground to preserve wildlife corridors.
The solar-powered camp eliminates single-use plastics and incorporates on-site water purification, while prefabricated construction methods were used to minimise environmental impact.
Signature accommodation includes elevated Horizon Terrace Suites positioned 14.3 metres above ground, alongside pool villas and a 400-square-metre presidential villa.
Experiential offering targets premium market
The property features a range of high-end experiences, including a floating dining pontoon on the river, in-suite spa treatments and a floating fitness platform.
Dining is positioned as a core part of the guest experience, complemented by cultural elements such as Zambian cooking classes.
Minor Hotels said the development introduces “a new standard of low-impact luxury in Zambia” while contributing to the long-term restoration of Kafue National Park.
New option for Australian safari itineraries
For Australian agents, the launch expands options in Zambia, particularly for repeat safari clients seeking less crowded, conservation-led destinations.
With improved access via charter flights from Livingstone and Lusaka, Kafue is becoming increasingly viable as part of broader southern Africa itineraries.
