Cape Town’s iconic Table Mountain Cableway is back in action after a seven-week maintenance shutdown, drawing eager crowds as it reopened on Monday, 2 September. The first day saw an impressive 7,000 tickets sold, underscoring the site’s status as one of South Africa’s top tourist attractions, welcoming over a million visitors annually.

Western Cape Premier Alan Winde expressed excitement about the reopening, noting, “Last year, we broke all tourism records with visitors flocking to the Western Cape, and the demand for Table Mountain shows no sign of slowing down.”

The maintenance work, which is part of the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Company’s (TMACC) ongoing commitment to safety and quality, included significant upgrades. “We’ve replaced the track ropes, overhauled the hanging and running gear, and strictly adhered to original equipment manufacturer specifications,” said Selma Hercules, TMACC’s Executive Director. “This ensures we maintain the highest standards of excellence for our visitors.”

Reopening just in time for South Africa’s Tourism Month, the TMACC team is ready to showcase the stunning beauty of Table Mountain once again. “We invite both locals and international guests to experience the best views in Cape Town aboard our state-of-the-art cableway,” Hercules added.

To accommodate visitors, the first car ascends the mountain at 08:30, with the final ride scheduled for 18:00. Due to ongoing roadworks, those accessing the cableway via Tafelberg Road are encouraged to use the free park-and-ride shuttle from lower Kloof Nek parking to the lower station.

Recently named KFM’s Best of the Cape Local Tourist Attraction for the third year in a row, Table Mountain Cableway is also in the running for Africa’s Leading Tourist Attraction at the World Travel Awards, further cementing its place as a must-visit destination in Africa.
