Chikunto Nthawi House set for August opening in South Luangwa

Chikunto Safaris will open its new exclusive-use Nthawi House in Zambia’s South Luangwa National Park in the final week of August 2026, adding a private safari option aimed at families, couples and small groups.

The tented villa expands Chikunto’s offering with two large suites, private and shared living spaces, a pool and dedicated safari arrangements, while new regional air connections are creating additional opportunities for advisors to package South Luangwa with broader Southern Africa itineraries.

Exclusive-use safari accommodation

Nthawi House, meaning “House of Time”, has been designed and developed by Chikunto Safaris founder Jens Kant and his team.

The villa has two spacious en-suite bedrooms, each with its own private lounge and bathroom, centred around a shared dining and seating area. An additional bed can be added to each bedroom, providing flexibility for family configurations.

Outside, guests have access to an expansive verandah, swimming pool and private deck overlooking a nearby waterhole.

For bookings of four or more guests, a private safari vehicle is included, allowing groups greater flexibility around game drives and the timing of their daily activities.

Rack rates range from US$1,100 to US$1,800 per person per night, depending on season, length of stay and the number of guests.

New air links support multi-country itineraries

Chikunto is also highlighting improved access to South Luangwa following the introduction of Proflight Zambia services linking Windhoek and Maun with Livingstone and Lusaka, alongside the existing Cape Town connection.

For the Australian trade, the links provide additional options for combining South Luangwa with Namibia, Botswana, Victoria Falls or South Africa within a broader Southern African itinerary.

South Luangwa is known for its walking safari heritage, wildlife viewing and leopard population, making it a complementary addition for clients who have already visited other major safari regions.

Longer South Luangwa stays promoted for 2027

Alongside the launch of Nthawi House, Chikunto is promoting incentives designed to encourage longer stays in the national park.

Its Stay five, Pay four “Valley of the Leopard” offer is designed as an extension to a wider Southern African itinerary, while the seven-night South Luangwa Slow Safari Special provides an option for clients wanting more time in the destination.

The 2027 seven-night package starts from US$5,250 per person sharing in low season and US$5,750 in peak season, equivalent to US$750 and US$820 per person per night respectively.

With Nthawi House opening this month and improved regional connections supporting more flexible itinerary planning, Chikunto is positioning South Luangwa for both standalone stays and multi-country Southern African safaris.
