EgyptAir to launch Sydney-Singapore-Cairo service

Sydney Airport has confirmed EgyptAir as a new airline partner, with the carrier planning to launch a service connecting Sydney, Singapore and Cairo from 2027. The route, subject to regulatory approvals, will be the first direct air link between Sydney and Cairo, opening Egypt to more straightforward booking for Australian advisors after years of reliance on one-stop or two-stop routings via the Middle East or Europe.

Egypt is currently Sydney Airport’s largest unserved market in Africa for Australian travellers. The new service brings Sydney Airport’s total airline count to 54, reinforcing its position as Australia’s leading international gateway.

Route opens onward connections across Africa, Europe and the Middle East

Passengers travelling on the new service will gain access to Cairo, along with onward connections across Egypt, the wider African continent, Europe and the Middle East through EgyptAir’s existing network. For advisors booking Egypt itineraries, the route also improves access to key sightseeing drawcards including the Pyramids of Giza, the Sphinx and Egypt’s Mediterranean coastline.

“Egypt is the largest unserved African market for Australian travellers, and a Sydney service by EgyptAir is a big step forward in improving connectivity between Australia and Egypt,” said Sydney Airport CEO Scott Charlton.

Captain Ahmed Adel, Chairman and CEO of EgyptAir, said: “The new service will make travel between our regions easier and support growing demand for tourism, business, education and visiting friends and relatives.”

Schedule and fare details still to come

The announcement was made at the El Alamein Air Show. Sydney Airport and EgyptAir have not yet released specific schedules, aircraft type or ticket sale dates; these details are expected closer to launch. Advisors with clients planning 2027 travel to Egypt should watch for further announcements before quoting firm itineraries on this route.

New South Wales is home to Australia’s largest Egyptian community, with more than 21,000 people, a factor likely to support demand for visiting friends and relatives traffic alongside leisure bookings.
