Entries open for WTM Africa Responsible Tourism Awards 2026

Entries are now open for the WTM Africa Responsible Tourism Awards 2026, recognising tourism businesses, destinations and individuals across Africa who are driving positive economic, social and environmental impact through responsible travel initiatives.

The awards will be presented during WTM Africa, taking place at the Cape Town International Convention Centre on 14 April 2026.

Pathway to global recognition

Gold award winners at WTM Africa will automatically progress to the Global Responsible Tourism Awards, giving African tourism leaders the opportunity to compete on an international stage.

In recent years, African initiatives have performed strongly at a global level, with past winners achieving recognition for community-driven tourism, cultural preservation and local economic impact.

Six award categories for 2026

Participation is free and open to responsible tourism initiatives across the continent. Entries will be assessed by an independent panel of experts across six categories:

  • Local economic benefits
  • Diversity, equity and inclusion
  • Nature positive tourism
  • Championing cultural diversity
  • Adapting to climate change
  • Regenerative tourism

Each category focuses on practical, measurable impact and replicable best practice within the tourism sector.

Celebrating Africa’s responsible tourism leaders

WTM Africa says the awards aim not only to recognise achievement, but also to inspire wider industry change by showcasing what is possible when tourism delivers meaningful benefits for people, places and the planet.

Entries close on 20 March 2026.
