In a significant achievement for African aviation, Ethiopian Airlines has welcomed the continent’s first Airbus A350-1000 to its fleet.
The grand arrival was marked by an official ceremony at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport, attended by government officials, ambassadors, diplomats, and senior representatives from Airbus and Thales. The aircraft’s landing was met with a jubilant water cannon salute, signifying the importance of the occasion.
This milestone delivery included a philanthropic gesture: a shipment of medical supplies worth over €100,000, donated to the Ethiopian Airlines Foundation through a collaboration with Aviation Sans Frontières and Airbus. The aircraft arrived from Toulouse, France, and continued celebrations featured a demonstration flight over the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, showcasing its capabilities to an array of distinguished guests.
Ethiopian Airlines Group CEO, Mr. Mesfin Tasew, highlighted the significance of this addition to the airline’s fleet, saying, “We are thrilled to welcome the Airbus A350-1000 to our fleet, solidifying our position as leaders in aviation technology. Together, we are pioneering a sustainable future for aviation in Africa.”
The A350-1000 is equipped with Thales’s AVANT Up inflight entertainment system and the HBC+ connectivity system, enhancing the passenger experience with spacious seating, large screens, direct aisle access for all business class seats, and a unique landscape camera. Its innovative design includes advanced aerodynamics, a carbon-fibre fuselage, and fuel-efficient Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engines, ensuring a quieter, smoother journey for long-haul flights.
This addition marks a pivotal moment for Ethiopian Airlines, aligning with its Vision 2035 plan to strengthen its position in global aviation while championing sustainability and passenger excellence. The airline plans to integrate three more A350-1000 aircraft into its fleet in the coming months, reinforcing its commitment to innovation and a superior travel experience.
With this historic delivery, Ethiopian Airlines not only sets a new standard for the African aviation industry but also reaffirms its role as a pioneer in technological advancement, environmental stewardship, and unparalleled customer service.
