The Pearl of Africa Tourism Expo (POATE) is an annual event showcasing Uganda’s unique attractions, promoting the country as a prime destination for tourism investment, partnerships, and cultural exploration. This concept brings together tourism operators, travel agents, hospitality stakeholders, and investors from around the world, creating a platform to promote Uganda’s brand as “The Pearl of Africa.

The expo showcases Uganda’s tourism assets through various themes each year, such as eco-tourism, cultural tourism, and adventure tourism. With interactive exhibits, cultural performances, and B2B meetings, POATE provides a comprehensive experience of Uganda’s tourism potential while driving sustainable practices and responsible tourism initiatives.

In the context of a growing global tourism market, POATE remains an essential event to enhance Uganda’s competitiveness and brand as a premier African tourism destination. The expo also serves as a strategic opportunity for Uganda to build capacity within its tourism sector, enhance infrastructure, and attract investment in tourism-related projects. Through POATE, Uganda aspires to captivate more international visitors, increasing the nation’s share in the global tourism market and strengthening local communities by promoting sustainable tourism practices.

The Pearl of Africa Tourism Expo (POATE) 2025 is expected to be held from 21st to 24th May 2025 at Speke Resort and Convention Centre in Munyonyo, Kampala

Regional Tourism Forum Wednesday 21st May 2025

This will be conducted under theme; Borderless Borders with engagements among the key Tourism Ministers from the region, tourism boards, IGAD, UNECA and regional corporations under a Regional Ministers Round Table with a focus on topics like;

1.  Travel Facilitation

2.  Transboundary product development

3.  Inspiring regional travel

4.  Promoting as one

Tourism Investment Forum Thursday 22nd May 2025

This forum will have a particular focus on investment within the tourism sector with topics on;

1.  Hospitality investment trends and opportunities

2.  Financing tourism, and

3.  Green investment outlook

Destination Marketing symposium Friday 23rd May 2025

This will have topics like;

1.  Domestic tourism marketing

2.  Regional tourism marketing, and

3.  E Tourism Marketing

  1. Theme: “Experience the Heart of Uganda: Lifestyle and Hospitality”
  • Emphasizing Ugandan hospitality and lifestyle, this theme celebrates the warmth, traditions, and community values that make Uganda a welcoming destination.
  1. Uganda Lifestyle Showcase Zones
  • Culinary Pavilion: A dedicated space featuring Ugandan cuisine, with tastings, cooking demonstrations, and masterclasses in traditional dishes like matooke, luwombo, and rolex. Renowned Ugandan chefs could collaborate with international culinary experts to add a modern twist to traditional dishes.
  • Crafts and Artisans Market: Visitors could explore and buy handcrafted items, such as beaded jewelry, bark cloth textiles, and woven baskets. Workshops with artisans would give attendees hands-on experiences, allowing them to learn the artistry behind Uganda’s crafts.
  • Traditional and Contemporary Fashion Shows: Runway showcases of traditional attire and contemporary Ugandan fashion, featuring local designers who merge modern and cultural styles.

  • Exhibits on Uganda’s Luxury and Eco-Lodges: This hub would display Uganda’s premier eco-lodges and boutique hotels, highlighting their unique offerings, such as wilderness settings, sustainable practices, and luxury amenities.
  • Hospitality Seminars and Workshops: Seminars on service excellence in Uganda, covering topics like customer service, sustainability in hospitality, and community-driven tourism. These sessions could be led by industry experts and local hospitality veterans.
  1. Community-Based Tourism Experiences
  • Showcasing Uganda’s community-driven tourism offerings, with interactive exhibits featuring local communities involved in tourism, from eco-trekking to homestays.
  • Visitors could engage with representatives from different regions, learning about rural tourism opportunities that offer immersive cultural exchanges and support local livelihoods.
  1. Wellness and Adventure Integration
  • A wellness zone highlighting Uganda’s offerings in eco-friendly wellness retreats, yoga, and mindfulness activities. This would appeal to tourists seeking relaxation and rejuvenation in a natural setting.
  • Adventure tourism displays, covering activities like rafting on the Nile, mountain climbing, and safari tours, positioned as complementary to Uganda’s lifestyle and hospitality.
