Edward Tucker Brown is the owner of the Madagascar Classic Collection (MCC). Madagascar Classic Collection was founded in 2007 by Edward, with the opening of the Mandrare River Camp as the first high-standard all-inclusive camp in Madagascar.
Exploring and opening up new incredible areas is in Madagascar Classic Collection DNA, and in August 2024 they launched their latest camp, Namoroka Tsingy Camp (you can read the review of the camp here).
By teaming up with local communities and NGO’s Madagascar Classic Collection aims to protect, preserve and improve the fragile environments that surround our camps.
Edward Tucker Brown is someone you need to get to know, and here is why.
Who is Madagascar Classic Collection?
MCC started as Madagascar Classic Camping, a mobile camping operator in Southern Madagascar and went on to become a DMC/Ground Handler and make our camps permanent.
How long has MCC been operating?
Since 2007, so 17 years now!
What sets MCC apart from the other operators in Madagascar?
We are a totally anglophone-focused company that offers a high-end service to all of our clients. Madagascar can be a tough destination logistically, and we pride ourselves on pre-planning for hiccups with local airlines, etc., as well as covering ensuing costs from schedule changes, etc.
What are the stand-out features of MCC?
We own 11 vehicles, 2 camps and a full DMC business. With our directors all honing their skills previously in East Africa both in lodge management and Tour Operating, we are able to offer a comfortable and reliable service that agents are familiar with.
What is new for MCC?
Namoroka Tsingy Camp! This is our brand new camp which opened on 15th August 2024 just beside Namoroka National Park. Seven tents were opened this year, with an additional two tents due to open next year.
What makes Madagascar such an incredible place to visit?
Scenery, biodiversity and people! Madagascar is home to 5 per cent of the world’s biodiversity, and most of it is endemic (80 per cent plus). We have half the world’s Chameleon species, over 1000 orchids and 115 species of lemurs, not to mention the Tenrecs, snakes, lizards and 90 per cent endemicity of plants in many areas.
What should agents know about booking their clients to Madagascar?
If possible, private charters or lodges/camps’ fixed departure seat-in flights are much better (and more reliable) than the local airline, Madagascar Airlines. The standard of accommodation is generally lower than East or Southern Africa, but the experience and service are excellent. Guests coming to Madagascar often like to visit areas such as the Galapagos, Borneo, Papua, Antarctic, etc. It is much more than an Africa add-on!
