IBTM Africa strengthens role as key platform for Africa’s MICE sector

IBTM Africa, taking place alongside WTM Africa, is continuing to build momentum as a leading business events platform for the continent, with strong international buyer interest confirmed ahead of the 2026 event in Cape Town.

The event will be held at the Cape Town International Convention Centre from 13 to 15 April 2026, bringing together global MICE buyers, African suppliers and a dedicated business events programme focused on meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions.

Buyer demand driven by senior decision-makers

According to WTM Africa, more than one third of its hosted buyer programme now has direct MICE influence, with 99 per cent of those buyers holding senior decision-making roles.

Reante Naidoo, Buyers and Digital Director for WTM Africa, said IBTM Africa has become a core pillar of the broader event.

International MICE buyers attending in 2026 will represent a wide range of source markets, including the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, United Arab Emirates, India, Australia and several African nations, reflecting growing global interest in Africa as a business events destination.

Expanded programme supports industry development

IBTM Africa’s 2026 programme will include a series of targeted networking and professional development sessions designed to support the growth of Africa’s MICE sector.

Confirmed sessions include the Women in MICE Breakfast, a leadership workshop in partnership with Women in Tourism, and a dedicated China Ready® Workshop aimed at helping exhibitors better understand the Chinese outbound market.

A full Sports Events and Tourism Exchange programme will also run on 15 April, highlighting opportunities across major sporting and business events, while the Africa Tourism Investment Conference on 14 April will provide insight into investment trends relevant to the MICE and broader tourism sectors.

Strong exhibitor representation across Africa

Around 40 per cent of exhibitors at WTM Africa 2026 are expected to have a strong MICE focus, including hotel groups, venues and specialist suppliers.

Exhibitors will represent 17 countries across Africa and beyond, showcasing infrastructure, services and destinations positioned to host international meetings and events.

Carol Weaving, Managing Director of RX Africa, said IBTM Africa plays a vital role in connecting global demand with Africa’s expanding business events capability.
