Kavango Zambezi launches ‘Rivers of Life’ tourism brand and global marketing drive

The Kavango Zambezi Trans Frontier Conservation Area (KAZA TFCA), the world’s largest terrestrial transboundary conservation area, has launched a bold new destination brand and marketing strategy aimed at positioning the region as a leading global tourism destination.

A landmark branding initiative for five African nations

Spanning 520,000 square kilometres across Angola, Botswana, Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe, KAZA TFCA is home to the largest contiguous herd of African savanna elephants—approximately 228,000—and offers some of Africa’s most ecologically significant and culturally rich landscapes.

Now branded as “Rivers of Life,” the destination draws its identity from the iconic rivers that support the region’s biodiversity and heritage, including the Zambezi, Chobe, Kavango, Kwando and Kafue.

Brand hub and stakeholder engagement

To support its global rollout, KAZA has launched a new online brand hub at uncoverkaza.com/become-a-media-partner. The hub offers tourism stakeholders access to logos, marketing templates and co-branding resources to help align messaging across the sector.

Tourism operators, travel media and conservation partners are also encouraged to sign the Brand Pledge and become ambassadors for the region.

Multi-market strategy to boost visibility

Backed by the German Government through KfW, the campaign is driven by a high-impact marketing approach, including:

  • Social media campaigns and digital storytelling
  • International trade show participation, including ITB Berlin, WTM London and Africa’s Travel Indaba
  • Famils and press trips for tour operators and journalists
  • Stakeholder workshops and brand alignment training

A conservation and tourism success story

KAZA TFCA is home to more than 650 species of birds, key Ramsar wetland sites, and endangered wildlife such as wild dogs, cheetahs, and Pel’s Fishing Owl. It also plays a crucial role in sustaining wildlife migration corridors and biodiversity across southern Africa.

The destination offers a range of bucket-list experiences including mokoro safaris, predator viewing, birdwatching, cultural immersion, and cross-border journeys connecting iconic sites like Victoria Falls, the Okavango Delta, and Chobe National Park.

Community-driven and environmentally focused

At the heart of the initiative is a commitment to sustainable tourism and community development. Local communities benefit through employment, cultural tourism, and conservation-linked enterprise, with community conservancies playing a central role in wildlife management.

Dr Nyambe Nyambe, Executive Director of the KAZA TFCA Secretariat, said, “The ‘Rivers of Life’ brand unites us in telling the story of our landscape, wildlife and people. It’s a shared vision that supports conservation while creating economic opportunities for our communities.”
