Kuganha opens in Western Cape, combining wellness retreat and Big Five safari

Kuganha has opened in South Africa’s Western Cape, positioning itself as a wellness-focused safari lodge within a 10,000-hectare rewilded Big Five conservancy just under 2.5 hours’ drive from Cape Town. Reservations are now open, giving advisors a new ultra-luxury option to offer clients seeking a combined wellness and safari stay close to Cape Town rather than in the traditional safari regions further north or east.

The property has been named one of Robb Report’s 50 greatest luxury hotels in the world for 2026.

Only 10 suites, each with private wellness facilities

Kuganha has just 10 private tented suites, each a minimum of 320 square metres, which the property describes as the largest one-bedroom private tented safari suites in Africa. Every suite includes its own wellness facilities, available to guests around the clock, rather than requiring a visit to a central spa.

In-suite facilities include a sauna, steam room, Himalayan salt oxygen halotherapy room, flotation deprivation pod, ice plunge bath, jacuzzi plunge pool and double massage beds. An introductory wellness session is included for all guests, covering the safe use of the in-suite equipment.

Dining and conservancy setting

Guests can dine privately in their suite or at the Kuganha restaurant, which overlooks an infinity pool and waterhole with views across the surrounding Karoo landscape. The menu uses organic, sustainable and locally sourced produce and can be tailored to each guest’s wellness goals.

The surrounding 10,000-hectare conservancy has undergone rewilding, including rehabilitation of indigenous vegetation and reintroduction of the Big Five and other wildlife species that had been hunted out of the region more than 270 years ago. The Western Cape location is malaria-free.

No specific rates have been supplied; advisors should contact Kuganha directly for current pricing and availability.
