Marriott International Inc. is set to significantly enhance Ethiopia’s hospitality and travel sector. Anthony Capuano, President and CEO of Marriott, recently met with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed to discuss the company’s ambitious expansion plans and ongoing commitment to the region.
Marriott plans to add nine new properties in Ethiopia, bringing its total portfolio in the country to 11. This expansion is expected to play a crucial role in boosting economic growth, fostering local employment, and attracting more travellers to Ethiopia.
Marriott’s presence in Ethiopia dates back 26 years, serving both leisure and business travellers with the Sheraton Addis and Marriott Executive Apartments in Addis Ababa. The new properties will be located in Addis Ababa, Bahir Dar, Hawassa, Jimma, and Mekelle.
“Ethiopia stands out as a premier destination with its rich culture, heritage, natural landscapes, diverse travel experiences, and genuine hospitality,” Capuano remarked. He emphasised Marriott’s dedication to showcasing Ethiopia’s unique natural beauty to international guests while supporting local economies and creating job opportunities.
Through its long-term presence and growth plans in Ethiopia, Marriott aims to enhance the country’s appeal as a travel destination and contribute positively to its economic development.
