Minor Hotels has announced a landmark joint venture with SUNRISE Resorts & Cruises, marking a major expansion of its presence in Egypt’s growing luxury and lifestyle hospitality sector.
The signing ceremony, held at the office of H.E. Prime Minister of Egypt Mostafa Madbouly and attended by H.E. Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Sherif Fathi, underscores the significance of this partnership for the country’s tourism industry.
A decade of development and growth
The new joint venture aims to open and manage up to 50 hotels over the next 10 years, spanning both urban centres and key leisure destinations including West Cairo, Azha Ras El Hekma on the North Coast, and Azha Ain Al Sokhna.
As part of the agreement, Minor Hotels will assume management of seven projects, covering a mix of operational properties, brownfield conversions, and greenfield developments. The partnership will also see the introduction of Anantara Hotels & Resorts, Minor’s flagship luxury brand, in key destinations across Egypt.
Expanding to the Nile
In addition to hotel management, Minor Hotels will extend its expertise to Nile cruise operations between Aswan and Luxor, inspired by the success of its acclaimed river cruise brands in Asia such as Mekong Kingdom and Loy Pela. This expansion reinforces Egypt’s position as one of the world’s most sought-after cultural and experiential travel destinations.
Strengthening Egypt’s global tourism appeal

William E. Heinecke, Chairman and Founder of Minor International, said the partnership represents a major milestone for the company.
“Egypt is one of the world’s most storied and inspiring destinations. By combining SUNRISE Resorts & Cruises’ deep local knowledge with our global reach, we’re setting a long-term vision to deliver exceptional luxury and lifestyle experiences across the country.”
Hossam El Shaer, Chairman of SUNRISE Resorts & Cruises and Madaar Developments, added that the collaboration supports Egypt’s Vision 2030 goals.
“This partnership reflects strong global confidence in Egypt’s economy and the future of its tourism sector. Together, we will continue creating sustainable, world-class destinations that celebrate the richness and diversity of Egyptian culture.”
A long-term vision for Egypt’s tourism future
The partnership brings together two hospitality leaders—Minor Hotels, operating in 59 countries, and SUNRISE Resorts & Cruises, one of Egypt’s largest hotel and cruise groups. With a shared focus on sustainability, innovation, and destination development, the new entity will introduce global hotel standards while investing in local expertise and employment opportunities.
