Morukuru Ocean House reopens with fifth bedroom and reimagined interiors

Morukuru Family’s exclusive-use Morukuru Ocean House in De Hoop Nature Reserve has reopened following a refurbishment and expansion, growing from four to five bedrooms and now sleeping a maximum of 10 adults and two children under 16. Rates remain unchanged despite the extra bedroom and wider upgrades, giving advisors more capacity to sell at the same nightly cost for larger family or group bookings.

New bedroom, extended living areas and design overhaul

The new fifth bedroom faces east and includes air conditioning, a private terrace and an outdoor shower. The existing lounge has been extended to add a dedicated TV room and library, and a second rooftop terrace has been added on the west side of the upstairs bar, offering dedicated sunset views. The children’s room now has two proper single beds.

Interiors were reimagined by Guus and Fenny Koevoets of Netherlands-based studio Vervoort Living, introducing a Scandinavian-influenced palette of soft beige and blue tones drawn from the surrounding beach, ocean and fynbos landscape. Artworks by South African artist Lionel Smith feature throughout the house’s five bedrooms and communal areas, alongside a 2.4-metre Farooo lamp by Dutch designer Marcel Wanders for Moooi in the lounge.

“Morukuru Ocean House has always been somewhere special. A place where families come to truly exhale. This refurbishment is about honouring that feeling while elevating every detail of the experience,” said Ed Zeeman, co-founder and co-owner of Morukuru Family.
