Robben Island Museum has announced the temporary suspension of all public tours from 16 June to 1 September 2025. The closure will allow for crucial maintenance and renovations as the site prepares to host global leaders during the upcoming G20 Summit in November.
The iconic heritage site, best known as the prison that once held Nelson Mandela, will undergo upgrades to enhance safety and preserve its historic infrastructure. The timing of the works has been carefully scheduled to ensure the island is ready to welcome both international dignitaries and future visitors with improved facilities and a revitalised experience.
Guests who have booked tours during the suspension period will receive full refunds. Credit card payments will be reversed automatically, while EFT refunds will require client authorisation.
Robben Island Museum is set to reopen on 1 September 2025, promising an enriched visitor journey that upholds the island’s powerful legacy as a symbol of freedom and resilience.
