Rwanda introduces Ebola screening measures at borders

Rwanda has implemented enhanced health screening measures at key entry points following regional Ebola concerns, while confirming the country remains open for tourism.

The Rwanda Development Board (RDB) said there are currently no Ebola cases in the country, with tourism operations continuing as normal.

Screening protocols introduced at entry points

Health screening protocols have been implemented at Kigali International Airport and selected land borders as part of precautionary measures led by the Ministry of Health.

National parks, hotels and conference venues remain fully operational, with existing health and safety standards maintained across the tourism sector.

Entry restrictions for recent DRC travellers

As part of the new measures, all foreign nationals who have travelled to or transited through the Democratic Republic of the Congo within the past 30 days will be denied entry.

The restrictions came into effect on 22 May.

Trade impact remains limited

For the travel trade, the update reinforces the importance of pre-travel screening and itinerary planning for clients moving through Central and East Africa.

While the measures may impact certain routing options, Rwanda’s core tourism offering remains unaffected, with gorilla trekking and safari experiences continuing as scheduled.

The development highlights the region’s continued focus on proactive health monitoring while maintaining tourism continuity.
