South African Airways (SAA) has renewed its codeshare agreement with Brazil’s Gol Linhas Aéreas Inteligentes, effective immediately. This partnership, paused during the COVID-19 pandemic, reconnects Johannesburg and Cape Town with Rio de Janeiro.

It enables seamless travel for leisure and business, enhancing tourism and trade between South Africa and Brazil.

SAA Chief Commercial Officer Tebogo Tsimane highlighted the strategic importance of this agreement, which now includes flights connecting major South African and Brazilian cities. Gol’s André Gaspar praised the expansion of destination options for travelers. The agreement also integrates frequent flyer programs, offering SAA Voyager Miles and Gol Smiles accrual.

This collaboration is part of SAA’s broader strategy to enhance connectivity across Africa, Latin America, and Australia, following new direct flights to São Paulo and Perth. The codeshare agreement aims to facilitate multi-city itineraries and contribute to SAA’s return to profitability, underscoring its commitment to connecting people and businesses globally.

Expanded Connectivity:

The renewed codeshare includes:

  • Flights between Cape Town International, OR Tambo International, and Rio de Janeiro’s Galeão-Antonio Carlos Jobim International Airport.
  • Domestic connections within South Africa, including Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban, and Gqeberha.
  • Over 20 connecting Gol-operated flights within Brazil, reaching cities like Brasília, Curitiba, and Belo Horizonte.

Future plans include adding 60 additional destinations across Latin America and Africa, providing travelers with greater flexibility and travel options.
