The iconic Table Mountain Cableway has temporarily shut down for its annual maintenance, with plans to reopen, weather permitting, on Monday, 2 September 2024.
This seven-week closure is part of the annual maintenance schedule and adheres to international standards. For the first time since its 1997 revamp, the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Company will undertake a full cable replacement.
Additionally, maintenance will include servicing the hanging and running gear, following the original equipment manufacturer’s specifications.
Throughout the maintenance period, the Cableway, along with all commercial and public outlets at both the Upper and Lower Stations, will remain closed. This includes shops, restaurants, and ablution facilities.
Despite the closure, Table Mountain itself remains accessible to hikers. Most routes and walkways will still be open, allowing travellers to climb to the summit. However, the hiking trails directly under the pathway of the cables will be closed due to extensive overhead work.
Travellers are advised to plan accordingly and check for updates on the reopening date as it approaches.
