African travel specialist This is Africa has strengthened its national trade engagement strategy with the appointment of Billy Knepscheld as Queensland Business Development Manager.
The move signals a continued focus on growing the company’s footprint across Australian travel agencies, particularly in key state markets.
Experienced consultant steps into trade-facing role
Knepscheld brings more than 17 years’ experience in the travel industry, including over 15 years as a travel consultant, largely with Flight Centre.
His background spans frontline sales and customer engagement, positioning him to support advisors with practical insights and destination knowledge.
Originally from Bulawayo in Zimbabwe, Knepscheld relocated to Australia in 2002 and has since built a career centred on travel and industry relationships.
Strong Africa knowledge supports advisor engagement
Knepscheld has travelled extensively across the continent, with firsthand experience in destinations including South Africa, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Botswana, Zambia, Kenya, Tanzania and Mauritius.
This depth of product knowledge is expected to support advisors in confidently selling Africa, particularly as demand for experiential and long-haul travel continues to grow.
In his new role, he will work closely with agency partners, providing tools, training and insights to help position Africa as a premium destination.
Focus on trade relationships and growth
The appointment reflects a broader strategy by This is Africa to invest in trade relationships and expand its presence across Australia.
By increasing on-the-ground support in Queensland, the company aims to strengthen advisor capability and drive sales growth in a competitive long-haul market.
For the Australian trade, dedicated BDM support remains a key factor in building destination confidence, particularly for complex regions such as Africa.
