Uganda tourism operations continue as normal during election period

Tourism operations across Uganda are continuing as normal during the country’s national and local elections on 15 January 2026, with no disruption to key safari regions or national parks.

While increased political activity has been reported in some urban centres, Uganda’s primary tourism circuits remain unaffected, and wildlife experiences are operating as scheduled.

National parks and safaris unaffected

Uganda’s major national parks, including Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, Queen Elizabeth National Park and Murchison Falls National Park, remain fully operational. Gorilla trekking, wildlife safaris and guided tourism activities are continuing under existing safety protocols.

There are currently no blanket travel bans or restrictions in place for tourism regions, and visitors are able to move freely between parks and lodges.

Temporary connectivity disruption

Travellers should be aware that the Uganda Communications Commission has implemented a temporary suspension of public internet access and selected mobile services during the election period. The interruption commenced on 13 January 2026 at 6:00pm East Africa Time and is expected to be short term.

Tour operators on the ground are monitoring the situation closely and maintaining communication with guides and drivers to support travellers during this period.

Advice for travellers

Visitors currently in Uganda or travelling during the election period are advised to keep travel documents easily accessible and to raise any concerns directly with their driver or guide, who can liaise with local operators if required.

Uganda’s tourism sector continues to welcome travellers, with its national parks, wildlife experiences and hospitality offerings operating as usual.
