Viking has strengthened its presence in Africa with the launch of Viking Aton, a purpose-built river ship now sailing Egypt’s iconic Nile River.
The new ship, identical to sister vessels Viking Osiris and Viking Ra, is custom-designed to navigate the Nile with all the comforts and elegance Viking is known for. Viking Aton accommodates just 82 guests in 41 staterooms, offering a small-ship experience paired with panoramic views, Scandinavian design, and an onboard environment tailored to destination-focused cruising.
The ship will operate Viking’s bestselling Pharaohs & Pyramids itinerary, a 12-day journey that begins in Cairo with tours of the Great Pyramids of Giza and the Grand Egyptian Museum. Travellers then fly to Luxor to board the ship for an eight-day cruise round-trip to Aswan, including visits to temples, tombs, and cultural landmarks along the Nile.

Demand for Viking’s Egypt programme has surged in recent years, prompting the cruise line to double its Nile River fleet since 2022. Two more ships are on the horizon – Viking Hathor and Viking Sobek – scheduled for delivery in 2024 and 2025 respectively, underscoring Viking’s long-term investment in the region.
With the expansion, Viking now operates a growing fleet of modern river ships in Egypt, offering Australian travellers a seamless way to explore the ancient wonders of Africa in comfort and style.
