Wilderness Chitabe, located within private conservation land bordering Botswana’s iconic Moremi Game Reserve in the Okavango Delta, is set to reopen on 16 April 2025 after a transformative refurbishment.
Known for its unparalleled wildlife encounters, the camp will debut newly rebuilt tented suites that blend luxury, sustainability, and a deep connection to the surrounding wilderness.
A Sustainable Redesign
Closing temporarily in January 2025, Wilderness Chitabe will focus on reconstructing its guest accommodations, while the neighbouring Chitabe Lediba camp remains open. The updated suites will feature a contemporary design with a neutral palette, offering serene spaces that enhance the safari experience. Each suite includes expansive beds with premium linens, an indoor lounge, and a private outdoor deck with panoramic views of the Delta’s abundant wildlife.
Guests can enjoy added conveniences such as a Nespresso coffee machine, a minibar, and a state-of-the-art cooling system that maintains comfort even during Botswana’s hottest months. This innovative evaporative cooling system combines ancient techniques with modern technology, circulating fresh, cool air throughout the entire suite in an energy-efficient manner.
“The new suites at Wilderness Chitabe are a perfect balance of luxury and sustainability,” said Helene Hamman, co-owner of Wilderness Chitabe. “We’ve designed them to be a sanctuary of comfort while remaining true to our ethos of treading lightly on the environment.”
A Premier Safari Destination
Wilderness Chitabe’s location within one of Africa’s most biodiverse regions provides unmatched wildlife encounters year-round. The varied ecosystems, from lush vegetation to diverse soil types, attract one of the highest predator concentrations on the continent and a wide range of prey species. These unique conditions ensure remarkable game viewing in every season.
The camp’s renovation also reflects its commitment to sustainability, with insulated walls, ceilings, and floors that reduce energy consumption. The fresh-air cooling system, tailored to the Delta’s warm and dry climate, enhances comfort while further reducing the environmental impact.
Elevated Safari Experiences
While the camp’s renowned game-viewing opportunities remain a highlight, the newly expanded suites nearly double their previous size, offering a new level of indulgence. Guests can expect the same warm hospitality and immersive safari experiences that Wilderness Chitabe is known for, now elevated by the comfort and sophistication of the redesigned accommodations.
Wilderness Chitabe’s reopening promises an unforgettable stay in one of Africa’s most iconic landscapes, where luxury and nature exist in perfect harmony.
