Wilderness reopens Chikwenya and Ruckomechi for 2025 safari season

Wilderness has officially reopened its legendary camps – Chikwenya and Ruckomechi – for the 2025 safari season, welcoming travellers back to one of Africa’s most pristine wildlife havens. Located on private concessions within Zimbabwe’s UNESCO-listed Mana Pools National Park, the two camps offer rare access to a remote, ecologically rich stretch of the Zambezi River.

With a renewed focus on ease of travel, Wilderness has extended its popular Free Flying Zimbabwe offer. Guests who book six nights across any combination of Hwange or Mana Pools Wilderness camps will receive a complimentary Wilderness Air flight between the two. Those booking eight nights across Livingstone, Hwange and Mana Pools will enjoy complimentary flights across the entire route – from Victoria Falls to Hwange, then on to Mana Pools and either Harare or back to Victoria Falls. This offer is valid for new bookings for travel from April to 20 November 2025.

Immersive safaris in an untouched landscape

Wilderness Chikwenya

Mana Pools is famed for its high-density predator sightings, abundant birdlife, and photogenic landscapes, and 2025 promises another spectacular season. At Wilderness Ruckomechi and nearby Little Ruckomechi, guests can expect regular encounters with lion, leopard and wild dog, all thriving in this protected ecosystem.

To the east, Wilderness Chikwenya continues to charm with its elephant herds, verdant forests and stunning views of the Zambezi River and Ruckomechi Hills. Game drives, walking safaris, river cruises, and catch-and-release fishing are just some of the ways guests can connect with the wilderness – all delivered with signature Wilderness style and seclusion.

“Mana Pools reveals its magic in different ways every season,” said Dean Morton, Wilderness Zambezi Managing Director.

“At Chikwenya and Ruckomechi, we offer experiences that are both deeply personal and purpose-driven, with conservation at the core.”

Stylish stays and soul-stirring scenery

Chikwenya features seven elegant tented suites, including two family units shaded by mahogany and albida trees. With the addition of a second safari boat this year, guests can enjoy extended sundowner excursions and peaceful island picnics.

Ruckomechi, with 10 spacious en-suite tents, offers thoughtful touches like a riverside pool, a fire deck under the stars, a freestanding outdoor bath, and the elevated Star Bed at Parachute Pan. For more privacy, Little Ruckomechi offers three exclusive suites, ideal for families or small groups seeking their own corner of the wild.

Safaris with impact

Wilderness Ruckomechi

Wilderness continues to lead in sustainable travel through its Children in the Wilderness (CITW) program, run in partnership with Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority. The initiative supports Eco-Clubs in eight local schools, engaging more than 250 children weekly in conservation education and mentorship.

“These young learners are the future guardians of our wild places,” said Morton.

“Our commitment goes beyond safaris – it’s about safeguarding landscapes and empowering communities.”

With spectacular wildlife, immersive experiences, and deep-rooted conservation efforts, Wilderness Chikwenya and Ruckomechi are once again ready to offer unforgettable journeys into the heart of Mana Pools.
