Wilderness Rwanda has announced the launch of Wilderness Magashi Peninsula, an exclusive luxury safari lodge set in Akagera National Park. Slated to welcome guests from September 2025, the lodge offers a high-end savannah experience paired with a strong commitment to conservation and community development.
Manzi Kayihura, Wilderness Rwanda Executive Director, highlighted the significance of the project. “Akagera is a place of extraordinary beauty and ecological importance. This launch deepens our commitment to celebrating and preserving Rwanda’s enthralling savannah safari experience,” he said.
A prime location for wildlife and relaxation
Magashi Peninsula is located within a private concession in Akagera National Park, Central Africa’s largest protected wetland and Rwanda’s only sanctuary for savannah species. Set against the stunning backdrop of Lake Rwanyakazinga and the Mutumba Mountains, the area is known for its exceptional game-viewing opportunities, featuring lions, rhinos, elephants, and diverse habitats ranging from open plains to wetlands and grassy hills.
The lodge will feature an exclusive eight-bed setup, including a four-bed villa and two luxurious twin rooms. Each accommodation includes private plunge pools and views designed to maximise wildlife sightings. The villa, which can host up to six guests, also offers a flexible en-suite space that can serve as a gym, office, or children’s room – catering perfectly to families or groups.
Guests will enjoy tailored experiences, including bespoke dining, boma nights, wellness treatments, and personalised guiding. For adventure seekers, water-based excursions aboard a pontoon or swamp cruiser provide scenic cruises, gourmet picnics, and sunset toasts. Night drives, rooftop Star Beds, and catch-and-release fishing add to the immersive experiences available.
Conservation at the heart of Magashi Peninsula
Magashi Peninsula is designed with sustainability at its core, powered entirely by solar energy and built with a minimal environmental footprint. Wilderness Rwanda works in partnership with the Akagera Management Company – a collaboration between the Rwanda Development Board and African Parks – to support conservation projects such as predator monitoring, invasive plant management, and community education.
Manzi underscored the lodge’s community impact, stating, “The interiors will reflect Rwanda’s cultural heritage, and the construction and operations will engage local talent to create meaningful employment. This aligns with our purpose-driven ethos to foster sustainable tourism that benefits the region.”
A unique Rwandan adventure
Magashi Peninsula is poised to offer a one-of-a-kind safari experience, pairing the savannah wonders of Akagera with gorilla trekking at Wilderness Bisate Reserve in Volcanoes National Park. Guests can immerse themselves in Rwanda’s diverse landscapes while actively contributing to conservation efforts.
“As we eagerly await the arrival of our first guests, Magashi Peninsula stands as a testament to the resilience of nature and our commitment to preserving this extraordinary landscape for future generations,” said Manzi.
