Qantas is set to significantly increase its capacity between Sydney and Johannesburg, with the introduction of the Airbus A380 on the route starting 30 September 2024. The change will double the number of available seats per flight.

Michi Messner, Regional Manager Africa for Qantas, called the move an exciting development, adding that it will add 55,000 seats per year. “Our flights on the Boeing Dreamliner currently have 236 seats, but with the A380, this will rise to 485 seats per flight,” said Messner.

The A380 will feature a four-class interior, including 14 first-class suites, 70 business-class seats, 60 premium economy seats, and 341 economy-class seats. Premium-class passengers can also look forward to an onboard lounge seating up to 10 people.

The flight frequency will vary between five and six flights per week once the A380 is introduced, giving travellers more flexibility and capacity on this popular route.
