Airlink has submitted an application to the International Air Services Council to launch daily return flights between Cape Town and Zanzibar. If approved, the service would provide a direct link between South Africa’s Western Cape and one of East Africa’s most popular island destinations.
Route expansion follows Johannesburg launch
The move comes just weeks after Airlink announced it would begin operating two weekly flights between Johannesburg and Zanzibar, starting 3 June 2026. The airline’s growing interest in the Tanzania market reflects increased demand for leisure travel to the region from South African travellers.
Greater connectivity for the Southern Africa region
If granted, the Cape Town–Zanzibar route will support both outbound holiday travel and regional connectivity, strengthening Airlink’s position in the Southern and East African leisure corridors. For the trade, it offers fresh product opportunities for twin-centre itineraries combining South Africa’s coast or winelands with the spice-scented beaches of Zanzibar.
