Exciting developments are underway at Kumbali Country Lodge, where a new private game reserve is taking shape, promising to be a must-visit destination for wildlife enthusiasts.

Situated just 10 minutes from Lilongwe city centre and 25 minutes from Kamuzu International Airport, the lodge is set to offer guests an immersive wildlife experience, right on the doorstep of Malawi’s capital.

The reserve is in the final stages of establishment, with the first inhabitants—two zebras—recently arriving in early August. This marks the beginning of a broader effort to create a thriving ecosystem, underscoring Kumbali’s commitment to conservation. While the reserve is not yet open to the public, as the team is carefully monitoring the animals’ adjustment, it is expected to welcome visitors later this year once the animals are well-settled and healthy.

Plans are already in motion to introduce more species, with animals being sourced from locations such as Kuti Wildlife Reserve and Game Haven within Malawi, as well as from reserves in Zimbabwe. This initiative aims to build a diverse and sustainable wildlife population, offering a unique experience for guests at the lodge’s 16 thatched suites.

In partnership with Conservation Research Africa, Kumbali Country Lodge is also enhancing its conservation efforts through research and education on critical issues like habitat loss and human-wildlife conflict. Fully licensed by the Department of National Parks and Wildlife, the reserve is dedicated to maintaining high standards of animal welfare and security.

As the reserve nears completion, it’s set to become a highlight of Malawi’s tourism offerings, combining luxury accommodation with a deep commitment to wildlife conservation.
