Sabi Sabi Collection reflects on seasonal change across bush and city

Seasonal rainfall has brought dramatic transformation to the Sabi Sabi Private Game Reserve in South Africa, following an intense midsummer wet season in January. Prolonged downpours caused rivers to rise and placed pressure on infrastructure, requiring careful management to ensure the safety of guests and staff.

While the rainfall was at times extreme, it has played a critical role in restoring the reserve’s ecosystems. The bush has responded with renewed vegetation growth, replenished water sources and increased wildlife activity. Despite the challenges posed by the weather, lodges remained operational throughout the season, and current conditions are described as lush and productive, supporting strong game viewing.

Boutique hospitality finds its rhythm in Cape Town

In a contrasting seasonal phase, The Claremont Boutique Hotel in Cape Town has entered its first full year of operation following its opening in late 2025. Located in a leafy suburb close to the city’s major attractions, the property has established itself as a base for travellers exploring both urban and natural highlights of the region.

The Claremont has been recognised by The Times (UK) as one of the notable hotel openings for 2026. Guests staying at the property have easy access to experiences across Cape Town, including Table Mountain National Park, Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, the Constantia Wine Valley and the Cape Peninsula coastline.

On-site spaces include dining venues, lounge areas and a craft bar, offering guests options to unwind after days spent exploring the city and surrounds.

New reserve taking shape along the Timbavati River

Looking ahead, the Sabi Sabi Collection is preparing to welcome Sandringham Private Game Reserve, a new property currently under development. Formerly a hunting farm, the reserve is being restored with a focus on long-term sustainability and conservation.

Sandringham is expected to open later this year, timed with the seasonal transition ahead of the summer rains. Located along the Timbavati River, the reserve will form the latest addition to the Sabi Sabi Collection, marking the next phase of growth for the group.

Across its properties, recent months have highlighted the role of seasonality in shaping both landscapes and experiences — from rain-driven renewal in the bush, to the settling rhythm of a new city hotel, and the careful preparation of a reserve yet to open.
