Wilderness Rwanda will introduce a new dimension to conscious travel with the launch of The Sanctuary at Wilderness Bisate, set to open in December 2025. Nestled in the dramatic volcanic landscapes of Rwanda’s highlands, this dedicated wellness space will welcome guests from both Bisate and the neighbouring Bisate Reserve, offering a deeply restorative experience rooted in nature.
More than a traditional spa, The Sanctuary reflects Wilderness’ evolving approach to guest wellbeing. Wellness is not treated as a scheduled add-on, but as an integrated philosophy—woven into the rhythm of daily life, from nourishing cuisine and mindful movement to quiet moments of solitude and sensory renewal.
Thoughtful design meets immersive restoration

The Sanctuary has been purposefully designed to encourage calm and reconnection. A heated saltwater indoor lap pool offers a space for gentle movement and reflection, while a steam room and ice bath introduce contrast therapy for revitalisation. Cocoon-like meditation pods provide stillness and solitude, and a yoga area and fully equipped gym allow guests to move at their own pace.
Natural textures, curated soundscapes, signature scents and soft, organic forms all contribute to the sanctuary’s grounding atmosphere. Signature massages and beauty treatments are available in dedicated bodywork rooms, with cosy fireplaces inviting guests to linger and fully unwind between sessions.
Redefining luxury through presence and place
According to Alexandra Margull, Wilderness Chief Operating Officer, the project marks a shift in how luxury is defined.
“At Wilderness, wellness is not an added layer defined by trends or treatments, but a natural extension of place—an invitation to pause, reconnect, and rediscover the restorative power of nature.”
The launch of The Sanctuary at Wilderness Bisate, alongside a second at Wilderness Mombo in Botswana, signals the beginning of a broader evolution across Wilderness camps. Wellness will become more deeply embedded in every guest journey, from immersive nature-based activities to sustainable, nourishing cuisine and the space to disconnect with intention.
