South Africa Tourism has wrapped up a successful first-ever Mega Lekker Escape famil in South Africa this week, with a contingent of 90 Australian and New Zealand travel agents, alongside consumer and trade media representatives.

The event ended in Sun City where over the course of three days, the group engaged in networking and fun activities like a Trivia Night, an Amazing Race around Sun City and a final evening of presentations by the groups on what their “South African Story” experience was.

Of course, there were prizes for all three events and competition was fierce. The Trivia Night came down to a nail-biting tie-breaker where the aerodynamics of a paper plane competition saw the Adventure Destinations Rhino group take out the win. The Viva Holidays Travelling Hyena group raced to the finish line in the Amazing Race around Sun City to take out first place.

It then came down to the final evening of presentations where each group had a video that showcased their week in South Africa. The video presentations were all fantastic and really showed that the real winner was South Africa Tourism and the wholesalers who now have 90 travel industry members enthralled in their South African experience and ready to go home to share that with their clients. In the end there could only be one winner, which was again the Adventure Destinations Rhino group who pipped across the line with their video messaging being one of sustainable travel and giving back to the communities and people of South Africa through travel.

The success of the Mega Lekker Escape owes much to the collaborative efforts of South African Tourism’s Australian and New Zealand trade wholesaler partners. Companies such as Above and Beyond Holidays, Adventure Destinations, Adventure World, MW Tours, The Africa Safari Co., This is Africa, Viva Expeditions, and World Journeys played pivotal roles in orchestrating and hosting the itineraries throughout South Africa.

Stay tuned for more coverage from the famil as our Africa Beat editor, Kate, was on the group in South Africa for the week as a part of the (winning) Rhino Team with Adventure Destinations.
